YSU Civil Engineering Students Take Top Prize
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Civil engineering students from Youngstown State University took top honors at a competition that focused on water and environment science and engineering.
At the 2019 Student Design Competition of the Northeast Section of the Ohio Water Environment Association, Christopher Metzinger, Spencer Desalvo, Tyler Stratton and Walter Wasilewski beat teams from six other schools to qualify for the Water Environment Federation’s Student Design Competition at the WEF Technical Exhibition and Conference in September in Chicago.
“The YSU team did an amazing job,” said Muralikrishna Chelupati, civil networks engineer, water hydraulic modeling specialist.
The purpose of the competition is to promote real world design experience for students interested in pursuing an education and career in water and environment science and engineering. Individuals or teams must demonstrate the ability to evaluate alternatives, develop a comprehensive design and present a solution that meets the requirements of a problem statement.
