YSU Extends Tressel’s Contract Indefinitely
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown State University board of trustees have unanimously approved an extensions for President Jim Tressel and provost Brien Smith.
Beginning July 1, Tressel’s contract will continue until terminated by either party with 180 days written notice. Smith’s contract, meanwhile, was extended through 2025.
“We have accomplished much in seven years, but there’s more work to be done,” Tressel said in a statement. “We look forward to continue moving the university ahead on various fronts.”
Tressel was named president of YSU in 2014 and has previously signed two contract extensions. Under his leadership, enrollment increased for the first time in five years, the academic quality of incoming freshman has increased, graduation rates have risen and the university has set new fundraising records.
Smith was named provost and vice president for academic affairs in 2019 after serving as the dean of Indiana State University’s Scott College of Business for seven years.
