YSU Marching Pride Plays Through Pandemic
Despite the lack of fall sports, the Youngstown State University Marching Pride will still put on a half time show for fans. Dr. Brandt Payne, director of athletic bands, says the show will be a video presentation he hopes to be completed by late September.
“One of the sneak peaks is spotlighting all of the Penguin alumni who are on the front lines in emergency rooms and hospitals that are making enormous differences as we deal with the pandemic right now,” he says.
This year’s band camp is anything but normal according to Payne.
“We’ve gone from a formula one car to a to maybe a cardboard cutout with our pace,” he says. “We’re listening to 20 students a day. It’s as much of a chance for us to hear them play as it is for us to connect with them.”
