YSU Student Newspaper Earns Awards at State Competition
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s student newspaper, The Jambar, recently placed in five of 10 categories at the Ohio News Media Association Competition.
The annual awards were announced during the Ohio News Media and Collegiate Fellowship Day at the Quest Conference Center in Westerville, Ohio.
The Jambar staff took second place for Best Website; Abigail Cloutier, Yousof Hamza and Jessica Stamp earned third place for In-Depth Reporting; Stamp and Maddison Fessler won third place for Design; Cloutier, Hamza and Samantha Smith placed third for Photojournalism; and Aileen Blaine won third place for Arts and Entertainment reporting.
“It’s one thing to place in ONMA’s contest each year – it’s another thing entirely to place among such elite student media competition,” said Mary Beth Earnheardt, journalism professor and student media advisor. “We’re very proud of the continued successes of The Jambar staff and the recognition of their work by professional journalists.”
