YSU Theater to Open Season with ‘Zombie Prom’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – YSU University Theatre will open its 60th anniversary season Friday with the cult classic musical “Zombie Prom.”

Suitable for audiences of all ages, “Zombie Prom” is set in the atomic 1950s, where a teenage girl falls in love with a rebel who becomes a zombie. The humorous and heartwarming show features several energetic dance numbers.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6-7 and 13-14, and 2 p.m. Oct. 8 and 15 in Ford Theater, lower level of Bliss Hall, on the YSU campus.

Tickets are $16 (all seats are general admission).

Special rate tickets are $9 for non-YSU students, YSU alums, senior citizens, Penguin Club members and groups of eight or more. YSU students, YSU faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid ID.

Cast members include Nicholas Atwood, Ryan Bedi, Emalee Chappa, Chloe Downey, Mallory Ehrhart, K.J. Hudson, Sam Law, Brooke May, Samuel Nabring, Laynee Sanger and Elise Vargo.

The production also includes live music by an ensemble conducted by Kent Engelhardt. Members include Jan Cox, Shane Hogle, Wilhelmine Loe, Blake Maurice and Santino Testa.

In addition to the director and conductor, technical staff includes Joe Spiro, music director; Katelyn Cassidy, choreographer; Lisa Howard, movement director; Todd Dicken, scenic designer; Katherine N. Garlick, costume, wig and makeup designer; and Ellen Licitra, lighting designer.

Student crew members include Cy’renity Star Marie Bowman, Crystal Fisher, Kit Harper, Keyshawn D. Mitchell, Helena Belle Snyder, Zakary R. Snyder, Camryn Alexis Tighe and Ilse Zijlstra.
