YSU to Announce ‘Multimillion-Dollar’ Project
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University and America Makes will hold a news conference Monday to announce that YSU and the University of Dayton Research Institute have been selected as the awardees of what’s described as a “multimillion-dollar Directed Project Opportunity.”
The research is funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Manufacturing and Industrial Base Technology Division, according to a media advisory announcing the news conference. It focuses on maturation of advanced manufacturing for low-cost sustainment.
The University of Dayton Research Institute is the principal investigator on the project and YSU is the co-leader of the technical efforts. UDNI, established in 1956, performed more than $98 million in sponsored research in fiscal 2015. It is ranked third in the nation among all colleges and universities for sponsored materials research, according to the National Science Foundation.
Scheduled to appear at Monday’s press event are U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio; YSU President Jim Tressel; Ralph Resnick, president and executive director of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining and founding director of America Makes; and John E. Leland, the University of Dayton’s vice president for research and UDRI executive director.
