YSU to House Valley STEM+ME2 High School
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Valley STEM+ME2 Academy, the only STEM-designated high school in the area, will open on the campus of Youngstown State University for the 2015-2016 school year, the Mahoning County Education Service Center announced today.
STEM+ME2 stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Math plus Manufacturing, Energy and Entrepreneurship. The new school will operate in YSU’s Phelps Hall where its students will occupy the second floor.
“This is an exciting day for the future STEM students of the Valley. The partnership with Youngstown State University will provide our STEM students with a truly unique experience,” said Vincent Colaluca, STEM + ME2 board president, in a statement.
The school will enroll 110 students from any district entering 9th grade for the 2015-2016 school year. According to its website, ValleyStem.org, applications are due April 15 at 5 p.m. Students may apply online.
“We are trying innovative techniques that span different areas of study related to STEM fields. It is not the way we attended school. It is very exciting to be a part of this,” added Jason Braddock, Director Valley STEM.
