12 Trumbull Restaurants Vie Saturday in Pizza Challenge

WARREN, Ohio — The two champions from the Warren Rotary’s 2015 “Slice of the Valley” pizza challenge will return to vie with 10 other Valley restaurants for bragging rights for the best pizza in the Mahoning Valley from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Demetrios Community Center here.

Those who attend the second annual pizza challenge attendees will determine the People’s Choice Award, won last year by Ianazone’s in McDonald, says challenge Chairman Rob Berk.

Proceeds benefit Warren Family Mission’s Women & Children’s Facility, transportation for Warren-area military veterans to the Solid Rock Therapeutic Riding Center in Louisville, for rehabilitation and the K-9 Corps at the Warren Police Department, Berk said.

Competitors this year are Buena Vista, Belleria, Sunrise Inn, ITAM 29 and Carmen’s, all in Warren, Leo’s and Gus’ Italian Grille, both in Howland; Marco’s, Girard; Auntie V’s, Cortland; and Russo’s, Mineral Ridge.

Ray “Boom-Boom” Mancini, Derek Steyer, Stan Boney and Mario Manningham will decide the Judge’s Choice Award. Last year’s winner was Cocca’s in Liberty.

The fundraiser will offer a pizza-eating contest, Chinese and silent auctions, music and a 50/50 raffle. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 and under. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
