Ryan Secures $8M for Road Projects in Valley

AKRON, Ohio – Two Mahoning Valley projects will receive a total of $8 in federal infrastructure funding.

The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will receive $4 million to improve the state Route 82 interchange at state Route 46 in Howland Township.

Mahoning County will receive $4 million for the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Project.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan secured the funding – part of $19.2 million for his district – through the INVEST in America Act for surface transportation projects. The act has been approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and awaits additional action this summer in the House of Representatives and Senate.

Ryan, D-13 Ohio, said he is proud to help secure the funding.

“The infrastructure America builds keeps our economy thriving, educates our children, and provides good-paying jobs for our workers,” he said. “Our business leaders, teachers, police and other first responders rely on a safe and available infrastructure to do their jobs. Our families rely on these public investments to get to the park and to get their children to school.”

Jim Kinnick, executive director of the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, said the funding commitment “will complete the safety upgrade and provide countless economic benefits to the corridor.” The project includes the construction of a diverging diamond interchange at Routes 46 and 82.

Patrick Ginnetti, Mahoning County engineer, said the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Improvement Project will enable commerce to move more efficiently and safely through the corridor.

“With growing businesses like Macy’s, Mom’s Meals, Liberty Steel and Extrudex, to name a few, the need for safety upgrades and pavement improvements is of utmost importance,” he said.

The improvements will affect segments of Mahoning Avenue, Bailey Road and Rosemont Road.
