Ohio Jobless Claims In Sharp Rise
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The state reported a 19% increase in new unemployment claims last week.
Residents filed 9,302 new claims from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, an increase of 1,783 over the previous week, according to the state’s job and family services department.
The number of continued claims filed last week also rose. Ohioans filed 40,797 continued unemployment claims in the same seven-day period, an increase of 8,663 over the previous week.
Ohio’s unemployment rate in October was 5.1%, according to the jobs department, which is higher than the national unemployment rate of 4.6%.
Ohio’s labor force participation rate in October was 61.2%, which is slightly less than the national rate of 61.6%.
The state’s department of jobs and family services works with local workforce development boards to provide employment and training services at 88 OhioMeansJobs centers.
