Ohio Jobless Claims Tick Upward
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New jobless claims filed by Ohioans during the week ended May 7 increased compared to the previous week, while continued unemployment claims fell during the period, according to data released Thursday from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Ohioans filed 7,021 new traditional unemployment claims last week, an increase of 766 claims filed the previous week.
Continued jobless claims stood at 33,372 for the week ended May 7, a decrease of 2,778 claims, ODJFS said.
Ohio’s unemployment rate in March was 4.1% versus the national unemployment rate of 3.6%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in March was 61.7%, while the national labor force participation rate for the month stood at 62.4%.
