Ohio Weekly Unemployment Claims Jump
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans filed 14,724 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which is 2,243 more than the previous week’s filings of 12,481 claims, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday morning.
State residents also filed 35,077 continued traditional unemployment claims for the week of July 3 to July 9, which was up slightly from the 35,077 posted the previous week.
Of the initial unemployment claims filed, some 4,221 of those have been flagged for more stringent identity verification, to ensure they are not fraudulent.
The total number of traditional claims filed last week, was 49,801.
Ohio’s unemployment rate in May was 3.9%. The national unemployment rate in May was 3.6%.
