Ohio Jobless Claims Hit Five Week Low
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New jobless claims filed by Ohioans during the week ended October 15 decreased to the lowest level in more than a month. Continued unemployment claims rose during the period, but stayed on the downward trend, according to data released Thursday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Ohioans filed 5,954 new traditional unemployment claims last week, a decrease of 1,264 claims filed the previous week.
Continued jobless claims stood at 27,994 for the week ended October 15, an increase of 710 claims, although still down from the 29,936 claims filed at the end of August, ODJFS said.
Ohio’s unemployment rate in August was 4% compared to the national unemployment rate of 3.7%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in August was 61.8%, while the national labor force participation rate for the month stood at 62.4%.
