City, County, Metro Unemployment Rates Rise in October
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local unemployment rates rose slightly month-over-month in October, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Tuesday.
Trumbull county’s unemployment rate was 4.9%, 10th highest among Ohio’s 88 counties, up two tenths of a percentage point from 4.7% from both the month before and from October 2021.
Both Mahoning County’s and Columbiana County’s October rates unemployment rate were up three tenths of a percentage point from the month before. Mahoning County’s rate was 4.8% last month, up from 4.5% in September and up from 4.7% in October 2021, 15th highest among Ohio counties. Columbiana County’s rate was 4.5% in October, 25th highest, up from 4.2% in September and from 4.3% in October 2021.
Youngstown and Warren each reported identical 6.2% unemployment rates in October, tying the cities for fourth highest unemployment rate among Ohio cities the department tracks. Youngstown reported a 5.8% unemployment rate the month before and 6.0% in October 2021. Warren’s September rate was 5.9% and its October 2021 rate was 5.7%
Maple Heights had the state’s highest city unemployment rate, 7.0%, followed by Cleveland and Euclid, tied at 6.4%.
The Youngstown-Warren-Boardman OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County, pa., posted a 4.6% unemployment rate in October, up from 4.5% the month before but down from 5.0% in October 2021.
