Ohio Transfers $9.7M in Liquor Permit Fees to Support Fund
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Liquor Control transferred $9.7 million to the Statewide Prevention and Treatment Fund within the past year.
Each year, the division transfers 20% of liquor permit fees to the fund. The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services administers funds toward prevention, treatment and recovery efforts to help Ohioans overcome mental illness and drug and alcohol use disorders.
“As we enter Mental Health Awareness Month this May, we want to highlight resources our sister agency, OhioMHAS, offers,” said Jim Canepa, superintendent of the Division of Liquor Control. “As we continue to create and promote social responsibility initiatives in Ohio, Ohio liquor laws ensure some of those dollars from licensing fees are directed towards alcohol abuse prevention and treatment.”
OhioMHAS is a cabinet-level state agency that provides leadership for a mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that aims to end suffering from mental illness, substance use disorders and problem gambling for Ohioans.
OhioMHAS offers a self-screening tool to help legal-age adults understand how their drinking patterns may affect their life and encourage help-seeking from a professional, if needed. The state of Ohio also operates a free emotional support CareLine (800 720 9616) to provide confidential help. More information on these and other resources can be found HERE.
