4 Valley Students Earn Believe in Ohio STEM Scholarships
DUBLIN, Ohio – The Ohio Academy of Science recently released the list of 138 students from across the state who will share in $276,000 in post-high school assistance through the Believe in Ohio STEM Innovation and Entrepreneurship Scholarship program.
The program, funded by the state through the Department of Higher Education, works to prepare Ohio’s future workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly changing labor market and innovation economy.
Emphasizing the importance of applying STEM and innovation to solve problems, the program also stresses the creation of solutions by developing marketplace opportunities through research and technological design.
“STEM and entrepreneurship are a powerful combination for solving needs-based problems,” said Michael E. Woytek, executive director for The Ohio Academy of Science. “Ohio has a long tradition of innovation, and these students are the future professionals needed for Ohio’s innovation economy.”
Among those receiving the award are Canfield High School students Delaney O’Brien, Alexa Schmidt and Elisabeth Facemyer, and Howland High School student Nastasija Glisic.
Each student will receive a $2,000 scholarship to attend any Ohio college, university or post-secondary career center.
Applicants were evaluated on academic achievement, essay questions and proof of a validated accomplishment in STEM innovation or entrepreneurship.
