Partnership to Help Replenish Valley Food Pantries, Closets

WARREN, Ohio – The Trumbull-Mahoning DEI Collaborative is partnering with Cadence Care Network to replenish local food pantries and closets.

With the end of the holiday season, the end of pandemic assistance programs and the rise in inflation in 2023, local pantries and closets have seen an increased need for assistance. Although many increase their giving during the holiday season, it is not enough to cover the need throughout the year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported in 2022 that 12.8% of households in the U.S. were dealing with food insecurities at some point during the year, a number that is on the rise. And Ohio is near the average across the country.

To help those struggling to make ends meet in the Mahoning Valley, Carol Holmes-Chambers, director of school and community wellness for the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board, said they began the Continuing the Care Initiative, which is focused on securing funds to purchase items in bulk. Those items will then be distributed to local food pantries and closets as needed throughout the year.
