WFMJ Report Sheds Light on Youngstown School Contracts after FBI Search
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local news organization WFMJ-TV has shed light on contracts between the Youngstown City School District and QuickMed Urgent Care that appear to be under scrutiny by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A story posted by the TV station Thursday evening lists contracts the school district entered into during the time frame the FBI is investigating.
On Wednesday, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed search warrants at QuickMed’s clinic in Liberty Township, its corporate offices and at Youngstown City Schools, the FBI confirmed.
According to QuickMed CEO Lena Esmail, the company is cooperating fully with authorities and noted law enforcement sought documents related to Covid-19.
On Thursday, the FBI launched a tip line seeking information regarding “services not performed or goods not provided or used, or vendors who received funds from the District while paying kickbacks (or “finder’s fees”) to district employees or associates of District employees, from 2019 to the present.”
The WFMJ story emphasizes that it is not known precisely what federal investigators are looking for or whether there is any evidence of criminal activity.
Justin Jennings, school district CEO during the time period under investigation by the FBI, resigned in June after a 21 News Watch Dog report that revealed how millions of dollars in federal funds were mismanaged.
