717 Credit Union Awards $18K in Scholarships to 12 Students

WARREN, Ohio – 717 Credit Union has awarded $1,500 scholarships to 12 students in the region to further their education.

Applicants were evaluated on their academic success and community commitment and were also asked to write a short essay. All of the scholarship recipients are members or children of members of 717 Credit Union.

The recipients are:

Merit Scholarship

  • Emma Hammer of Salem High School, biomedical engineering, University of Akron.
  • Grace Basile of Austintown Fitch High School, speech pathology/audiology, Kent State University.
  • Alec Turnbull of Salem High School, physical therapy, Kent State University.
  • Madison Vardavas of Hoover High School, chemistry, Youngstown State University.

Spirit Scholarship 

  • Emily Gainer of Marlington High School, psychology, Kent State University.
  • Nickolas Barger of Edgewood High School, radiology, Kent State University.
  • Ayla Ray of Austintown Fitch High School, Youngstown State University.
  • Daniel Summers of Ravenna High School, sports analytics, University of Akron.

Cha-Ching Teen Club Scholarship

Recipients are members of the credit union’s Cha-Ching Teen Club.

  • Mackenzie Hathhorn of Howland High School, veterinary technology, Kent State University.
  • Renn Rohrer of Warren G. Harding High School, civil engineering.

The Edge Scholarship

The Edge program was developed for 18- to 25-year-olds to build upon the financial program offered to the credit union’s Cha-Ching members as they become more independent and begin to make financial decisions on their own. The recipients are:

  • Emma More of Waterloo High School, finance, Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
  • Walter Bungard, chemical engineering, University of Akron.
