Barnes & Noble Opens YSU Bookstore Monday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – After nine months of construction, the new campus bookstore at Youngstown State University, operated by Barnes & Noble College, will open to customers 8 a.m. Monday.
In addition to textbooks for students, the store will stock YSU apparel, school supplies and a section dedicated to books for the general public, similar to what can be found in any Barnes & Noble. There will also be a Starbucks café.
A grand opening for the store will be held in August when students return to campus for the fall semester. The new location moves the campus bookstore from Kilcawley Center in the heart of campus to a more accessible site at the corner of Fifth and Lincoln avenues.
The Barnes & Noble is the latest piece in a flurry of activity taking place around the university. On the same block, the University Edge apartment complex houses 162 students with a second, 220-bed building under construction. Further down the recently renovated Lincoln Avenue, the Enclave apartment building has begun site preparation.
“This is the start of a ripple effect for getting rid of the stigma that this is a commuter campus,” said Student Government Association Vice President Gabriella Gessler at the October groundbreaking ceremony. “If there’s housing around campus, then students will be more compelled to stay on campus, stay engaged and establish more of a life outside the hours of classes.”
Work on the store was still being wrapped up Friday morning as workers laid the final bricks in the sidewalks in front of the store and stocked shelves inside.
Barnes & Noble College operates about 770 campus bookstores nationwide, including all Kent State University campuses, Ohio State University, University of Akron and Case Western Reserve University.
