Alta Care Awarded $8.2M Grant for Head Start

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –  Alta Care Group has received an $8.2 million federal grant to support to support its Head Start programs, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan announced Tuesday.

The grant from the Department of Health and Human Services will support Alta’s Head Start programs through from June 2021 through June 2025. The program provides children in low-income families with comprehensive health, education, nutrition, social and other services.

“Alta Care Group is honored and very proud to be selected by the US Department of Health and Human Services to continue operating the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs for the City of Youngstown and Mahoning County,” said Joe Shorokey, CEO of Alta Care Group, in a statement.

Added Ryan: “Investing in our children is one of the most important things we can do, and that is more important now than ever. As we continue to combat the coronavirus, we must do everything in our power to provide quality care for our children that keeps them safe and healthy.”
