Amateur Radio Association Field Day Set for June 25-26

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association will hold its annual Field Day at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm from noon June 25 to 2 p.m. June 26.

The field day, which free and open to the public, is part of a nationwide event organized by the American Radio Relay League to show how amateur radio can provide emergency communications during disasters. Several stations will be set up at the farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, and run for 24 hours on stand-alone generators, batteries or solar power.

Stations at the field day will feature “sophisticated computer systems, antennas and power distribution,” as well as communication systems including voice, Morse code, digital transmission and satellite communication.

More than 35,000 ham radios participate in Field Day every year, according to the American Radio Relay League and more than 725,000 amateur radio operators are licensed in the United States. The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association was founded in 1919.
