Apple Castle’s Johnston Named to Fruit+Vegetables 40 Under 40
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Fruit Growers News and Vegetable Growers News have named Apple Castle owner Steve Johnston to their Fruit+Vegetable 40 Under 40 list.
“Our inaugural Fruit+Vegetable 40 Under 40 Class of 2018 represents the next generation of leaders who will significantly evolve the industry in their respective areas,” said CEO and publisher Matt McCallum in a release. “Their impressive accomplishments to date are reflective of their natural leadership, motivation and desire to make a significant impact in their field.”
The honorees represent the full spectrum of agricultural work, from growers and market operators to extension agents and suppliers.
Johnston is the sixth generation of his family to run the farm on the outskirts of New Wilmington. The land surrounding the Apple Castle has been in the family since Josiah Smith Johnston purchased it in 1861. The market opened in 1950.
