April 14 Walk/Run to Benefit Wick Park

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Registration is now open for the inaugural Wick Park 5K Run/Walk set for April 14 at the Wick Park Pavilion.

The 3.1-mile run/walk will be held entirely within the park itself and will be professionally timed by Second Sole Racing.

The run/walk is a fundraiser for the Wick Park Improvement Project, specifically targeting improvements for the park’s running trail. Since 2008, nearly $850,000 has been raised for improvements including landscaping, signage, gates, new sidewalks/parking area, playground, exercise equipment stations, a disc golf course and pavilion upgrades.

The event is being presented by Youngstown CityScape in partnership with city of Youngstown Parks & Recreation, Youngstown State University Campus Recreation, Youngstown Marathon, American Heart Association Youngstown and Wick Park Neighborhood Association.

Registration is $17 before April 7 and $20 after. Check-in, day-of registration and packet pick-up will be at 8:30 a.m. The race/walk starts at 10 a.m.

All race participants will receive race gift bags while top finishers will receive:

  • Cash prize plus medals for top three overall male and female finishers.
  • Medals for top three male and female runners in the following age brackets: 0-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
