Dearing Opened in 1945 to Serve Steel Industry

YOUNGSTOWN – As World War II was winding down, the Mahoning Valley steel industry was having problems receiving delivery of equipment.

So in 1945, Albin P. Dearing III started Dearing & Co., an industrial, mechanical and electrical supply business, using financial backing from steel industry sources. Dearing & Co. included a Gardner Denver compressor distributorship.

In later years, Dearing began packaging compressors for the oil and gas industry and the rest is history.

Today, four members of the Dearing family work for the company, now known as Dearing Compressor & Pump.

Representing the third generation of the family are Rick Dearing, president; Becky Wall, vice president-finance; and Albin Dearing, vice president-operations.

Ryan Wilson, the great-grandson of the founder, is vice president-manufacturing, and part of the fourth generation.

In its 75-year history, Dearing Compressor has seen many highs and lows but has always remained viable by offering great service and maintaining relationships with customers, says Wall.

The company believes in treating its employees like family, focusing on clients and partners, and being a local company with a national reach, .

The year 2020 was “exceptionally hard,” according to Wall.  “I always brag that our employees are the heart and soul of Dearing and keep us moving forward. But what an understatement that was in 2020. They undeniably helped the company survive.”
