YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The efforts and collaboration of Mahoning County Commissioners David Ditzler, Anthony Traficanti and Carol Rimedio-Righetti have placed the county in the best financial shape it has experienced in decades. With a healthy economy and an all-time high bond rating, Mahoning County is positioned for sustained growth.
One significant accomplishment is the fiscal stability achieved in 2023, which resulted in an unprecedented bond rating.
Broadband expansion, regionalized 911 services, providing essential resources for seniors and veterans, upgrading infrastructure and providing a permanent revenue stream to fund law enforcement illustrate the county’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The American Rescue Plan Act has played a pivotal role in Mahoning County’s success. With nearly $44 million allocated since 2021, the commissioners have strategically invested in projects that address diverse needs. This funding has been channeled into local governments, infrastructure enhancement, education, nonprofit support, agricultural development, and collaborative initiatives.
As we step into 2024, residents will witness the start or completion of various projects. The United Way is providing books to children through Imagination Library, Veteran’s Haven will continue construction on its container home project for veterans and the Campus of Care continues to increase and expand mental health treatment, developmental and youth services. Additionally, Foster Farm’s Therapeutic Center and GabbaCamp are expanding services for those with disabilities.
Meanwhile, the county revolving loan fund, in conjunction with Valley Partners, continues to benefit businesses with 140 jobs expected to be created or retained over the next two years.
Significantly, commissioners also approved a resolution last year to provide $1 million to the Western Reserve Port Authority in support of the Mahoning Valley Partnership to create an economic development plan known as Valley Vision 2050.
