YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Roughly $1.06 billion was provided to businesses in the five-county area over the course of the Paycheck Protection Program, protecting more than 100,000 jobs. Across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania, lending was led by familiar names, with Huntington Bank, First National Bank of Pennsylvania and Citizens Bank taking the top three spots.
Further below them on the list are familiar local names: Farmers National Bank, Premier Bank and Cortland Bank, which processed PPP loans totaling $90.9 million, $83.2 million and $37.5 million, respectively, in the five-county area.
Continuing down the list are financial tech firms and out-of-area banks that focused mainly on providing PPP loans to small businesses. Celtic Bank Corp., based in Salt Lake City, provided 155 loans totaling $2.6 million, for example.
