Arts Festival Sets Stage for Busy Weekend Downtown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University will host the 20th annual Summer Festival of the Arts July 7 and 8, featuring more than 85 local, regional and national artists selling original pieces.

The festival will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 7 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 8. In addition to artists selling jewelry, paintings, sculptures, glass works and textiles, the festival will also feature displays from 20 clubs and churches.

The city’s arts weekend kicks off two days earlier, July 5, with the St. Nicholas Greek Summerfest. The festival at the church, 220 N. Walnut St., runs through July 8. Take-out lunch is available 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

On Friday, The Fabulous Flashbacks will perform near Central Sqaure. The show, which begins at 6:30, costs $12 in advance at the Covelli Centre box office or Ticketmaster.com or $15 at the gate.

Saturday and Sunday, Youngstown Comic Con will be held at the Covelli Centre, featuring more than 125 vendors with featured artists Jim Steranko and Jim Shooter. Tickets are $15 per day and are available at YoungstownComicCon.com or at the arena.

Saturday evening, the Youngstown Wine & Jazz Fest kicks off at 6:30 at the intersection of Boardman and Market streets. Tickets, available at the gate, are $10.
