Banner 100th Year at Adolph Johnson & Son

By Paul Johnson, President
MINERAL RIDGE – It was a banner 2019 for Adolph Johnson & Son Co. in many ways.

We celebrated 100 years of constructing residential, commercial and industrial buildings in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, culminating Sept. 14 with a gathering at our Mineral Ridge headquarters of past and present employees, vendors, customers, friends and relatives.  Premium fair food, music by Stan Miller, displays prepared by the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, activities for children and more made for a very enjoyable event.

In this centennial year, the company experienced the benefits of the robust economy with increases in activity, particularly in the retail and industrial sectors. Design/build projects included a new fire training facility at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center and an addition to house the Austintown Police Department dispatching operation.

We continue to develop the capabilities of graduates from Youngstown State University, Kent State University and members of Carpenters Local 171 so we can meet the demands of the increase in construction activity. Safety training, on-site job trainers for apprentices, in-house coaching and supplier training sessions are some of the tools routinely used to improve our performance and capabilities.

Another contribution to our banner 100th was the funding of the Adolph Johnson & Son Co. scholarship at Youngstown State University. The proceeds from the endowment will be granted annually to a student who aspires to live the traditional American dream.

We are also pleased to be able to support many local charitable organizations that do so much for our community and in some cases have touched the lives of our personnel.

All indications are good for strong demand for our construction services in 2020. Particularly encouraging is the steady amount of opportunities in the industrial sector. A vibrant industry means a good job market and all the positive things that come with people working.

Adolph Johnson & Son was founded in 1919 by Adolph Johnson, a Swedish immigrant. Today the company provides general contracting and design/build services for commercial, industrial and institutional clients – from conception to completion.

Our services are provided primarily in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
