Buhl Foundation Awards $838K
SHARON, Pa. – The Buhl Regional Health Foundation awarded $838,433 to 20 nonprofit agencies in the Shenango Valley in 2019, bringing its total to nearly $1.5 million since grant awards were first issued three years ago.
Among the most substantial grants was the first $250,000 installment of a multiyear matching grant totaling $2 million to the Buhl Community Recreation Center in Sharon. The funds will be used to add programs over the next five years, says board Chairwoman Angela Palumbo.
Other grants made in 2019 include a second phase of funding for Connecting Mercer County, which supports a mobility manager to work with organizations toward addressing gaps in transportation.
“The objectives of the foundation are collaborative partnerships and programs, capacity building for organizations addressing health needs, and grants that focus on health-related needs,” Palumbo says.
In February, the foundation will launch a college scholarship program for students entering the health-care field. It will be available to students living in Mercer County as well as Hubbard, Masury and Liberty Township in Ohio.
