Central YMCA to Hold Spin-A-Thon March 30
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Central YMCA downtown here will hold its 19th annual Youngstown Spins for Youngstown Swims Spin-A-Thon on March 30 from 8 a.m. to noon.
This year’s spin will raise funds for the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, specifically for the Youngstown Swims initiative, which provides swim lessons to every second-grader in Youngstown City Schools, swim lessons to children with disabilities, and financial assistance, making swim lessons affordable for those in need. The YMCA staff will also return to Northside Pool this summer to teach children swim lessons and water safety.
“At the Central YMCA we are committed to helping kids in our city be safe around the water,” said Mike Shaffer, executive director of the Central YMCA. “Inner city kids are seven times more likely to drown and that is something we are changing every day.”
The Youngstown Swims initiative has helped students once afraid of going into the water, now able to swim and be comfortable in the pool environment.
Participation in the Spin-A-Thon is open to the public. Each rider must have a $50 minimum sponsorship for each hour they ride. Registration is open until the day of the event. To create a fundraising page, visit Give.YoungstownYMCA.org/yspinners.
“This is a great event to participate in as a community,” Shaffer said. “Help support our cause by donating or riding in the Spin-A-Thon. You’ll be glad you did.”
