Championship JFK Baseball Team to Be Honored July 1

NILES, Ohio – John F. Kennedy Catholic School’s state baseball champions will be honored at 11 a.m., July 1 at the Eastwood Mall center court.

JFK’s team, which won the state championship June 13 at Canal Park in Akron, captured the Division IV crown with 11 players – the minimum number permitted to play as stated by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

The Eagles had one senior, three juniors, a sophomore and six freshmen on the roster and blanked Van Wert Lincolnview in the title game, 4-0. Lincolnview had 22 players on its roster.

Eagles’ head coach Jim Ciambotti was in his first year. Kennedy has 10 of his 11 players returning next season.

As part of the celebration, the Cafaro Foundation will present the school with a donation.

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin and Bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown David Bonnar will be some of the dignitaries at the event.

The public is invited to attend.
