Cockeye Creamery’s Chief Wins National Ice Cream Award

WARREN, Ohio – Maxwell Hoover of Cockeye BBQ and Creamery received the top prize at this year’s National Ice Cream Retailers Association’s annual convention.

Hoover was named Grand Master Ice Cream Maker at the event, which took place earlier this month in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the only person to receive this honor.

Hoover is in charge of ice cream production at the family-owned Cockeye BBQ and Creamery, 1805 Parkman Road, on Warren’s west side.

For the third consecutive year, Cockeye Creamery’s small-batch super-premium Deep Chocolate ice cream won a blue ribbon – the hightest honor – at the convention.

Cockeye Creamery also was honored this year for its Fresh Strawberry and French Vanilla Bean flavors.

This year’s awards secure Cockeye Creamery’s place as one of the nation’s best boutique and artisan independent ice cream manufacturers, the company said in a press release.

To celebrate its honors and say thank you to the Valley, Cockeye Creamery will give away free samples of its Deep Chocolate ice cream with any purchase on Saturday, Nov. 26.
