Community Foundation Boosts Mahoning Valley Nonprofits with $972,402
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and its affiliates awarded $972,402 to 39 local organizations.
The General Grant program of the foundation contributed $302,600, while the Western Reserve Health Foundation dispensed $299,802, primarily for health initiatives in Mahoning County. The Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation allocated $185,000, and the William Swanston Charitable Fund provided $85,000 to benefit Valley children. Additionally, the Hospice Trust of Trumbull County granted $100,000 to Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice.
This allocation represents the largest amount the Community Foundation has disbursed in a single cycle for 2023, culminating in $2.24 million in total grants for the year.
“We’re excited to end the year on such a high note and be able to support such a wide range of organizations delivering crucial services to the Mahoning Valley,” says Casey Krell, incoming president of the Community Foundation. “As we head into a new year, the Community Foundation is looks forward to continuing this momentum and providing ongoing support to the Valley’s nonprofits.”
The 2024 deadlines for CFMV grant applications are set for Jan. 15, April 15, July 15, and Oct. 15, with an additional date of Feb. 1 dedicated to the newly established Warren Community Impact Fund. Prospective applicants can explore opportunities at CFMV.org/grant-opportunities.
In alignment with its pledge to address racial inequity, the Community Foundation highlighted recipients with at least 50% people of color in leadership roles, denoted in bold on the fourth-quarter grant list.
The list includes a diverse array of recipients such as the ACLD School and Learning Center, receiving $10,000 for expansion, and Compass Family and Community Services, awarded $25,000 for their senior program. Notable contributions include $35,000 to Inspiring Minds for youth enrichment and $100,000 to Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. for community safety initiatives.
