Eastern Gateway, Foxconn Partner on Maintenance Training Program
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Eastern Gateway Community College and Hon Hai Technology Group, or Foxconn, announced a partnership Monday in which EGCC would provide technical training to Foxconn employees through the college’s industrial maintenance program.
“We are so pleased to be able to offer this type of hands-on training for Foxconn employees,” said Eastern Gateway Community College President Michael Geoghegan. “Eastern Gateway continues to offer training programs based on the needs of the community, and this is a great step in the right direction at educating and empowering the next class of highly skilled workers to move the area to the forefront of the electric vehicle manufacturing and industry. Our faculty and staff are prepared to help train a generation of workers who will be able to stay rooted here and continue to help grow the Mahoning Valley economy.”
The EGCC-Foxconn training program will be held at Youngstown State University’s Excellence Training Center downtown.
“As Foxconn redefines contract design and manufacturing services within the automotive sector, partnering with education to create custom training programs will be critical to meet the highly skilled workforce demands of the future,” said John Ritter, director of facilities, Foxconn. “Eastern Gateway Community College’s individualized training programs will expand our employee’s skill sets and give them opportunities for professional development such as NIMS – National Institute of Metal Working Skills – certification.”
EGCC’s technical training classes for Foxconn Ohio maintenance employees consist of eight modules. The first two modules are scheduled for completion this month.
Each NIMS Industrial Technology Maintenance credential aligns with the modules ranging from maintenance operations to electrical systems. These selected Foxconn employees will be moving into maintenance roles within the company.
