Entrepreneurship 101 and Steam Summer Camps at YWCA

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The YWCA Mahoning Valley is hosting a number of events focusing on entrepreneurship, beginning with the next installment of its We360 program.

Carmella Williams, microenterprise program director for the City of Youngstown, and founder and operator of Carmella Marie, will lead the We360 Entrepreneurship 101: The Business of the Business seminar at 6 p.m. on May 12. Those interested for the Zoom virtual event can click HERE to register.

Participants will gain insight into more than six keys needed to ensure the business of the business is on the right track, according to a release. The seminar will provide a checklist of items all entrepreneurs should consider to ensure they are on a path to achieving success.

Starting in June, middle school girls in Youngstown and Warren can participate in four weeks of Y-Girls STEAM Ahead summer camps. Participation is $50.

Running June 14 to July 9 for Youngstown students, and from July 12 to Aug. 6 for Warren students, the camps begin with NASA Blast Off! Off to the Moon and Mars. Campers will learn about NASA, the complex functions of spacesuits and will use electronics, coding and sensors to test for gases and radiation in the spacesuit.

Students will also learn about Mars and will design an item they think would be necessary to live on the red planet.

Other STEAM summer camp events include:

  • Biz 3D & Entrepreneurship: Campers learn how to take an idea and turn it into a reality. They will see 3D printing in action, brainstorm a new product or innovation of an existing product, design or build the item and create a business plan.
  • Summer Manufacturing Institute: Campers will explore microelectronics and focus on the manufacturing of a smartwatch. They can walk to local manufacturers in Youngstown or Warren, as well as incorporate digital sessions with manufacturers who are unavailable to provide live visits.
  • Arts and More: Campers will learn about graphic arts, how to run a small art business from women entrepreneurs and designers, and go on gallery tours. They will participate in a solar cooking project and build self-esteem with a personal growth workshop.

To register for the STEAM Summer Camps, call 330 746 6361 or click HERE by May 31.

Camps will be held at 25 W. Rayen Ave. in Youngstown, and 375 N. Park Ave. in Warren.
