Event to Support First Responders, Residents Impacted by Explosion
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Two downtown business owners are working to provide food for residents displaced by this week’s explosion at Realty Tower and a “lunch break” for first responders.
Aspasia Lyras-Bernacki of Penguin City Brewing Co. and Derrick McDowell of The Youngstown Flea & We Are A Generation have organized Feed The City: Realty Tower Residents & First Responders.
The event is set for noon to 3 p.m. Friday at Penguin City’s taproom.
A GoFundMe page has been created to support the costs associated with the event. Monetary donations will cover food, drinks, paper products and other expenses.
Based on the number of people who responded to the scene and those who work and live in the building, the event organizers aim to raise $5,000.
Any donations that exceed the necessary expenses of the event will be donated to efforts supporting Chase Banks employees, Realty Tower residents or applicable area nonprofits, organizers said in a news release.
