Free Legal Clinics for Art Professionals, Organizations

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Two free Legal Clinics for Creatives will be presented this month and in October by The Legal Creative in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

During the programs, art professionals and arts organizations can schedule a half-hour or one-hour appointment to meet face-to-face with an attorney working pro bono.

A limited number of appointments is available, and all artists must register in advance with The Legal Creative to meet with a volunteer attorney. Registration is free and open to all artists and arts organizations regardless of income, but consultations are limited to topics that relate to the running of an arts business such as copyright, trademark and contract law and general business formation. No walk-in appointments will be accepted.

The Legal Creative offers volunteer lawyers for the arts service to artists and arts organizations throughout Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. Thus far, the lawyers have helped such organizations such as Students Motivated by the Arts (Smarts) and the Artists of the Rustbelt.

The first Legal Clinic for Creatives will be held from noon to 4 p.m. July 24 at the main library here, the second from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Austintown library.

Artists can register by calling The Legal Creative at 330 286 4363 or at the website http://www.legalcreative.org
