Fyda Freightliner Mirrors Trucking Industry Growth

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — After completing the expansion of its truck dealer network in 2018, Fyda Freightliner added 30 employees companywide last year.

Locally, Fyda Freightliner Youngstown, at 5260 Seventy-Six Drive, Austintown, added seven employees in three departments.

The year started out at a robust pace, says sales manager Scott Williamson, in keeping with growth and expansion experienced by the trucking Industry over the last few years.

Sales of new and used trucks, parts and service increased substantially, with the new-truck sales department up 15% over 2018 through November. Overall truck sales appear to be trending back to a more normal equipment replacement schedule when compared against market expansion seen in 2017 and 2018. The trucking industry hit its peak in the second quarter of 2019 and has contracted significantly, leading to the expectation of a challenging 2020, at least for the first six months, says Williamson.

The Fyda Youngstown parts department saw a slight increase in overall sales for the year but made significant gains in its E-Commerce Pinnacle Parts sales, which increased by 171% over 2018. ”By allowing our customers to place their orders online, it saves them and our parts counter personnel time, which makes the whole process much more efficient,” says Jason Piecuch, parts manager.

The service department saw modest gains in overall sales during 2019, and added three diesel technicians, bringing the department total to 21.

Fyda Youngstown also added an accounting department employee.

The strong economy over the last few years has allowed Fyda to take advantage of its Freightliner Elite Support Certified status, which is achieved through a rigorous annual process designed to improve customer satisfaction. In 2019, Fyda Freightliner Youngstown was proud to have once again earned this certification on the first inspection.
