Gantt Honored With Outstanding Teacher Award

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Association for Surgical Education named Dr. Nancy Gantt, medical director of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, as a recipient of this year’s Philip J. Wolfson Outstanding Teacher Award.

Gantt is also a professor of surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University, a surgeon at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, past president of the Association of Women Surgeons and board examiner and president of the Ohio chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Nominees, no more than four each year, must be actively involved in surgical education and considered to be outstanding teachers by their department chair, peers, residents and students. Among the qualities that demonstrate that, the association says, are expert knowledge, stimulation of interest, encouragement of problem solving and innovation.

The award will be presented at a banquet in Boston during surgical education week, April 12 through 16.
