Golf Outing Raises $63K for United Way

POLAND, Ohio — The 7th Annual Locker 1 & 2 Golf Outing raised $63,000 for the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.

Leo Henry, Director of Operations for the Muransky Companies, and Bob Conger, Business Development Manager for Consolidated Electrical Distributors, once again chaired the event that was held June 20 at The Lake Club in Poland, Ohio.

“Leo and Bob started this outing in 2015. It’s amazing to see how it’s grown. This annual outing has generated more than $268,000 in 7 years,” said Bob Hannon, President of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. “Their creativity to make the event unique and dedication to make sure it sells out every year is greatly appreciated. We rely on our donors and volunteers to help us have a successful campaign, and Leo and Bob are two of the best.”

Henry and Conger started the outing in 2014, raising $16,000. This year they broke their own record by bringing in $63,000.

“We set out every year to raise money for the United Way, and we appreciate all the sponsors and golfers who come out every year to help such a great cause,” said Leo Henry of the Muransky Companies and Bob Conger of Winkle Electric. “Our goal is to offer them so much more than golf, but a truly unique experience at The Lake Club, the best golf course in the Mahoning Valley.”

All the proceeds will be utilized for the United Way’s Success After 6 programming, which has added several new components in the wake of the pandemic. There are now 4 Care Closets that offer students and families a one-stop shop for all their basic necessities such as food, clothing, cleaning supplies, hygiene kits, and bedding. This need for easier access to basic needs was realized by the United Way staff over the last two years, and fund raisers like Locker 1 & 2 allow the organization to expand and meet the needs of the children they serve. United Way is also dramatically expanding its Vision program that provides vision screenings, exams, and free glasses to children. For the 2022-2023 school year, they will be reaching more than 3,500 children up from 1,000 in years past.
