Golf Outing to Honor Judge Joseph Donofrio’s Legacy

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Meridian HealthCare will present the inaugural Judge Joseph Donofrio Memorial Golf Outing on Sept. 16 at Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield.

The event will follow a standard four-man scramble format for $1,200 per team. Non-golfers can support the event by purchasing a $50 non-golfing ticket to attend, sponsoring, or making a monetary donation of any amount. Sponsorship opportunities range from $150 to $10,000.

Funds raised during the event will be used to provide long-term addiction recovery care in the Mahoning Valley.

“Our main goal is to honor Judge Donofrio and continue his legacy by providing addiction recovery for people in the Youngstown area,” said Larry Moliterno, president and CEO of Meridian HealthCare. “Where everyone else saw legal issues, he saw potential for a second chance. We are proud to continue the important work that he started.”

Donofrio, who died April 15, 2020, created a program for those facing legal consequences from repeated alcohol-related incidents, allowing them to enter Alcoholics Anonymous instead of being sentenced to jail time. This program paved the way for the Donofrio Home Halfway House, which became part of Meridian HealthCare in 2005.

“The money raised by this event directly benefits the people in our community,” said Breanna Whirrett, development coordinator for Meridian HealthCare. “These funds will provide critical support for individuals on their path to long-term recovery.”
