Group to Host Equal Pay Day Event in Austintown
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown Business and Professional Women will recognize Equal Pay Day 2024 with a mixer from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 4 at Coaches Burger Bar, 5529 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.
The event will highlight legislative solutions to ending unfair pay practices. Valarie A. Nash of 821 Consulting LLC will be the guest speaker.
The public is encouraged to attend, and attendees are encouraged to wear red to symbolize how far women and minorities are “in the red” with their pay.
The event will include heavy appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased HERE.
Equal Pay Day was first started in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity to bring awareness to wage inequities between men and women. According to statistics released by the U.S. Census and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “in 2020, women were paid 83 cents for every dollar their male counterparts were paid.”
“On March 22, 2024, it will be 101 years since the Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced to Congress. It’s disappointing that with all of the progress our country has made to improve the rights of women and minorities, that we still haven’t seen it turn into law,” said Dee McFarland, past president and Equal Pay Day Committee co-chair.
