New Year Begins Work on Growth Report 2018

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Business Journal will publish Growth Report 2018,  “200 Stories of Growth and Resolve,” on Jan. 31. Since the newspaper’s first Growth Report was published in 1986, local businesses have taken advantage of the opportunity to report their achievements over the course of the previous year.

“When we started The Business Journal in August 1984, we kept our focus clear — to act as a catalyst, resource and point-of-contact for business leaders in the Mahoning Valley,” says Andrea Wood, publisher. “The Growth Report is the ultimate manifestation of that focus. It gives businesses a chance to report their accomplishments while providing business owners and consumers with a directory of local businesses.”

Stories are submitted by companies and organizations, and are edited for publication by the newspaper’s staff. Information includes growth plans for the new year, revenue growth in 2017, hiring of new employees, rolling out of new services or products, investments in new equipment or technology, engaging in community service, or overcoming key challenges.

Each year also includes a “bonus” question that correlates with the latest business trends. This year, the newspaper is asking companies how they used software and social media to boost their business in 2017.

“Speaking from our own experience, we’ve seen a lot of success using social media to deliver our content to a wider audience and reach new readers,” Wood says. “We want to know what lessons other businesses have learned and insights that they’ve gained using these dynamic tools.”

The deadline to submit story information is Thursday, Jan.18. There is no charge to submit a story. Submission guidelines include:

  • All reports must be sent to growth@business-journal.com. We cannot guarantee placement if reports are sent to other email addresses.
  • Submit no more than 600 words.
  • The name and title of the person to whom the company information should be attributed to must be included as well as the full company name and address, telephone and email of the person submitting the report.
  • Copy slanted toward advertising will be deleted.
  • Reports are subject to standard news editing and available space.
  • Photographs will not be accepted for publication.

Advertisers recognize the annual Growth Report as an ideal vehicle toget their brand and messaging in front of more than 45,000 readers.

“The Growth Report has by far become our largest and most popular issue of the year,” Wood says. “Demand for advertising space is strong and ad sizes are limited, so space sells out fast.”

Deadline for ads is Monday, Jan. 22. Companies interested in advertising can contact Jan O’Malley at 330 227 7129, or Troy Polis at 330 227 7148.
