Hiram College Names Scott Pohlman Director of Athletics

HIRAM, Ohio – Scott Pohlman, Hiram College softball coach, moves from interim to permanent director of athletics at the northeast Ohio school.

“I would like to thank President [David] Haney and Dr. [Liz] Okuma for entrusting me with this tremendous opportunity,” Pohlman says. “Now is an exciting time to be a part of Hiram College Athletics. We have a long, rich history of high academic achievements, dedicated student-athletes, and energetic coaches and I look forward to working beside these individuals as we strive for new levels of success both on and off the field.”

As softball coach, Pohlman led the Terriers to the North Coast Athletic Conference East Division title, championship series and received conference Coach of the Year honors. He has had about a dozen players receive all-conference academic and athletic honors.

Prior to joining the Terriers, Pohlman was an assistant softball coach at Denison [Ohio] University and North Carolina A&T University – along with being the athletic director and head softball coach at Millersport [Ohio] High School.

“I am excited Scott stepped into the Interim position earlier this semester and then went through the athletic director search process,” says Okuma, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. “Scott has been successful as a coach and helped the softball program reach new heights. I know he will bring that same energy and hard work to the new position which will keep Hiram Athletics moving forward.”
