History Society, Idora Experience to Host Reunion
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society and the Idora Park Experience are hosting a reunion party for former employees of Idora Park. The event will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center.
Idora Park operated on the South Side from 1899 to 1984, when it closed following a fire that destroyed the Wildcat rollercoaster and Lost River ride. For more than 20 years, Idora Experience owners Jim and Toni Amey have collected memorabilia and artifacts from the amusement park. In 2014, they opened the Idora Park Experience in Canfield.
Visitors to the Idora Park Experience over the years have requested a reunion event for former employees to get together and share stories. These requests prompted the couple to join with the history society to host the event. Attendees will hear behind-the-scenes stories about the park, and will be able to record their own memories with history society staff.
Lenny Cavalier, a former owner of Idora Park, will be the featured guest.
Attendees will enjoy a picnic-style buffet and receive a commemorative Idora Park gift. They also are invited to an open house June 1 at the Idora Park Experience. Former Idora employees also are welcome to bring a guest. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.
