Historical Society Plans Leap Day Cookie Table Event
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s eighth annual Cookie Tables & Cocktails fundraiser is scheduled for Leap Day, Feb. 29.
The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica Social Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave. It’s the largest fundraiser for the year for the historical society, with proceeds supporting its exhibits and programming. Last year’s event drew 80 bakers who made thousands of cookies, according to a press release.
The catered event recreates a traditional Youngstown wedding reception, featuring a cookie baking competition for amateurs and professionals. Stan Boney, WKBN-27, is emcee for the event.
Cookie categories are Best Cocktail Inspired Cookie, Best Use of a Unique Ingredient, Best Traditional Cookie and Best Decorated Cookie. A panel of community members will judge the competition for overall impression, consistency, and flavor.
Bakers can register by contacting contest coordinator Traci Manning at 330 743 2589 or [email protected]. Each baker receives a complimentary ticket and special recognition at the event. Bakers who don’t want to compete may also participate.
A cash bar will serve signature cocktails, mixed drinks, wine and beer, as well as a limited edition beer from Penguin City Brewing Co. based on one of the winning cookies from the 2019 event. A preview of the beer will be available Feb. 13 at the Boxcar Lounge next to the B&O Station Banquet Hall, 530 Mahoning Ave.
The event includes buffet dinner by Fusillo Catering, live music by the Del Sinchak Orchestra, 50/50 and basket raffles, and a silent auction. Tickets are $65 each and can be purchased at MahoningHistory.org/events or by calling Linda Kostka at 330 743 2589.
