Job Postings Decrease Across Ohio, in Northeast Region

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets decreased between January and February, according to OhioMeansJobs.

In Northeast Ohio’s 18-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties – 54,344 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Jan. 14 and Feb. 13, the agency reported.

That’s a decrease of 6,750 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a 3,570 decrease from a year ago.

Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 168,409, a decrease of 11,003 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent a decrease of 11,604 from the same period a year ago.

Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 30.6%, and upper middle income, 28.2%; followed by six-figure jobs, 15.9%; entry-level jobs, 14.8%; and high-income jobs, 10.4%. Most jobs, 46.8%, require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 31.4% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 15.4% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 3.9% a doctorate and 2.5% a master’s degree.

The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 3,653; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 2,684; retail salespersons, 2,295; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 2,040; and first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers, 1,102.

Statewide, most jobs are middle income, 29.1%, and upper middle income, 27.7%; followed by six-figure jobs, 18.5%; entry-level jobs, 13.3%; and high-income jobs, 11.4%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 43.5%; while 35.3% require a bachelor’s degree, 14.3% an associate’s degree, 4.2% a doctoral degree and 2.6% a master’s degree.

The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses with 9,352; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 7,082; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 6,068; retail salespersons, 6,004; and stockers and order fillers, 3,302.
