This cartoon, from our July 2000 edition, comments on the looming indictment of the late U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant. By this time, it was clear the congressman was a primary target of federal investigators as they built their case layer-by-layer. It was so obvious that the congressman boasted in public that charges were imminent, and vowed to single handedly defend himself, much to his supporters’ delight.
