Junior Golf Tourneys at Mill Creek Bring in $1.9M
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Five years of hosting the Mahoning Valley Hospital Foundation’s American Junior Golf Association all-star and preview events has brought a combined economic impact of $1.9 million, Mill Creek MetroParks reported Tuesday.
This year’s tournament, held the week of June 20, had an impact of $301,974. That number includes spending on lodging for participants, their families and tournament officials, rental cars, dining and entertainment. The tournament, held at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman all five years, also saw a $7,000 donation to the park’s foundation.
The 2021 tournament featured 280 competitors, including six who earned a spot from a regional qualifying event with 156 players. There were also more than 150 volunteers, 37 college coaches and two dozen staff and interns from the American Junior Golf Association.
Anna Swan of Erie, Pa., was the female champion for the All Star Tournament, shooting two over par, while John Hiller of New York, N.Y., was the mall champion at three under.
In the Junior Preview Tournament, Mia Melendez from Ann Arbor, Mich., won the female tournament at two over par and Peyton Savageau of Oak Grove, Minn., won the male tournament at three over par.
